Game Concept: Spectrum

Initial game idea - Spectrum

My concept for a game is an endless runner with guitar hero Esq mechanics. Game-play would be similar to temple run but more rhythm based and focused. The player controls a character and must collect glowing collectibles in time to the music (Electronic, techno) while avoiding certain obstacles and collecting power ups. The game will speed up over time and become more difficult while the music will bleed out into different songs as to not become too repetitive - each level will contain 3-4 songs. The character will also have a life bar which constantly drains throughout the level, replenished by collecting items and power-ups - this would force a sense of urgency upon the player as they would need to focus to collect everything as they play. The life bar would also represent a colour spectrum, changing from blue all the way to red as health becomes low.

For the art direction I will look into realistic graphics with bright and vibrant emissive/particle effect usage (like Geometry wars) or more stylized. I was also considering a UV spectrum art style, using blues and greens with fog/low draw distance similar to how a bee would perceive the world.
