Art Test 2: Starbound Promo Art / Character Design

For my second art test I am required to develop my own interpretations of the races of Starbound and create a piece of promo art.

I will start the test off my designing characters based from the pixel art within the game.

These are my first design based paintings of my interpretations of 3 races so far, after some feedback I know that I need to try and blend my style closer to the official artwork without straight up mimicking it. I should also create a series of more character driven posing to display each of the races natural traits.

Below are my initial Promo art thumbnails and my V1 render. I was initially going to create a much more dynamic scene that portrayed the rivalry between the Florans and the Hylotl, however after a discussion with my tutor I decided that less can be more when it comes to designing promo art. I am wanting to create a banner of sort that would be used at an expo - such artwork would need to be bold and easy to read, without being lacking in detail. I decided on a simple render of a character, something that grabs the viewers attention without being too muddied in scenery.

So far I am somewhat happy with my render for the promo art. There are a few minor tweaks that I should do to the image, as well as thinning the painting and seeing how having the logo at the top would read. I also thought about adding a desaturated "mist" over the character that blends down to the bottom, allowing the logo to properly stand out from the image.
