BA2b Final Evaluation

 Final Evaluation

This unit has been a somewhat productive one, I have produced and collaborated with a variety of people to create our intended outcomes.

The art collab enlightened me into an alternative method of thinking, showing me the Fine Art side of idea generation and productivity. It was nice to work in a physical format again, following traditional workflows and creating something more tactile. Although short, it certainly opened my mind to new ways of approaching problems, especially with a group of unknown individuals.

The Interchange week gave me experience and skills within photography, presenting me the knowledge to collect, format and present images of my own, an invaluable skill as a concept artist - giving me the chance to be able to collect my own source material and reference imagery.

Finally the game collab - I was assigned the roles of concept artist, animator and environment designer. I very much enjoyed the project from beginning to end, despite the hiccups within our group at the halfway mark. I gained skills in animation and pixel art, alongside refining my 2D concepting ability. The project has gave me more insight into the development process, with the usage of Trello helping guide our team in a more efficient manner. Our outcome was satisfying and although far from polished, it has acted as a starting point for myself as a budding developer. I hope to create projects of my own over the summer following what I have learned, and adding onto my somewhat limited programming ability.

I have also researched and thought about my dissertation subject. Building off of my choices for interchange, I have decided to research something that will assist my concept artist skills in some way. I have chosen to investigate enemy design, as well as the archetypes and stereotypes that are used within that area. Hopefully I can uncover trends and game developers ambitions with enemy design, allowing my own conceptual library to grow and understand more.

Good stuff, second year has been a blast! Now onto the third.
